This year, I will be the case carrier for your son/daughter. I am looking forward to a great 2016/17 school year. At North Park Academy of the Arts, we are dedicated to promoting inclusive and positive ways of supporting our students. My job involves going into the classroom and collaborating with the general education teacher. This service model is called Push-in/Pull-out. Some days, I will be in the classroom working with students individually or in groups. Some times, I will be pulling students out of the room to help them in small groups.
In the Push-in/Pull out model, students can receive an inclusive education and personalized services. This model is designed to create opportunities for your child to participate in a regular classroom environment. The student placed in this type of service delivery will benefit from two teachers that are available to deliver instruction.
The following are some benefits of the Push-in/Pull out model; The teacher to student ratio goes down, and instruction can be tailored to meet the needs of the students. This model also allows for peer support. Pairing or working in groups with peers is a great way to meet student needs. In Push- in /Pull-out model, the Special Education teacher is able to differentiate instruction, modify work and give more individualized attention to the students. Most importantly, Students are receiving instruction in a classroom with their regular peers and not missing out on any of the general education curriculum.
Overall , I believe this model is very effective. it allows students to have typical middle school experiences necessary for social skill acquisition, life-skill learning and scholastic success. I am looking forward to a successful year with your son/daughter.
